What is the Board of Servant Leaders (BSL)?

  • The BSL consists of nine members of the church plus the
    senior pastor as their spiritual leader
  • Each members serves a three year term
How are BSL members chosen?
  • A nomination committee prepares a slate of candidates
  • Qualified BSL candidates must be members of Faith Community
    and have demonstrated a commitment to the church by their
    prayers, presence, gifts and service
  • Each candidate must be ratified by 85% of present voting
    church membership at the Annual Charge Conference
What are the BSL’s primary responsibilities?
  • Visioning – Set the future direction of the church
  • Review each church ministry for effectiveness
  • Maintain continuity and consistency of the church ministries
  • Act as the legal entity of the church with signatory authority
  • Provide accountability for the pastors, pastoral staff and the
    business manager
  • Oversee the annual budget and secure an annual audit by
    an independent contractor
  • Determine appropriate levels of staffing for the church,
    including hiring approvals
