What is the Board of Servant Leaders (BSL)?
- The BSL consists of nine members of the church plus the
senior pastor as their spiritual leader
- Each members serves a three year term
How are BSL members chosen?
- A nomination committee prepares a slate of candidates
- Qualified BSL candidates must be members of Faith Community
and have demonstrated a commitment to the church by their
prayers, presence, gifts and service
- Each candidate must be ratified by 85% of present voting
church membership at the Annual Charge Conference
What are the BSL’s primary responsibilities?
- Visioning – Set the future direction of the church
- Review each church ministry for effectiveness
- Maintain continuity and consistency of the church ministries
- Act as the legal entity of the church with signatory authority
- Provide accountability for the pastors, pastoral staff and the
business manager
- Oversee the annual budget and secure an annual audit by
an independent contractor
- Determine appropriate levels of staffing for the church,
including hiring approvals
