Introduction

By stepping away from what is familiar, we are
able to serve in other communities within our
nation. Our National trips provide opportunities
to serve in the area of construction, responding
to natural disasters, education, and children and
youth programs.

Chicago Urban Weekend

Trip Dates: April 20-22, 2012

This is an exciting new weekend trip to expose us
to God’s work in the inner city. This weekend will
be packed full of opportunities to serve the poor
in shelters, food banks, and neighborhood
centers. Participant’s stereotypes and assumptions
will be challenged as we will be involved in
people-to-people ministries and will become
in-volved in the lives of city dwellers.

Family Mission Retreat, Appalachia Ohio
Trip Dates: July 27-31, 2011

This year’s family mission is in Athens, Ohio, where
families can serve together helping other children
and families in poverty-burdened southeastern Ohio.
The Team will be involved in a Kid’s Discovery
Program, serve meals at a shelter, work on projects
for seniors, and prepare and serve the Friday night
Community Dinner. This is called a Mission Retreat
because families will serve, play, and worship
together. We will also celebrate our country’s

Iowa Flood Relief

No trips planned at this time

Since the flooding of Cedar Rapids in 2008,
we have commissioned ten mission teams to
help this community rebuild. The collective
efforts of Faith Community, and multiple other
organizations, have allowed hundreds of people
to return to their homes and move forward with
their lives. During our four-day mission trip,
mission team members may assist with general
home rebuilding, painting, clean-up and
general maintenance.

McCurdy School
No trips planned at this time

McCurdy School is a United Methodist Mission
School in Espanola, New Mexico, which serves
a predominately Hispanic and Pueblo
population of children from Pre-school through
High School.  Each year, we send servant
volunteers from Faith Community serve on at
McCurdy through United Methodist Volunteers
in Mission.  This mission opportunity provides
an opportunity to work with the teachers and
children as well as to help with repairs, building,
and landscape work on the school property.
We also help to sponsor students to attend
the McCurdy School.

Gulf Coast (Katrina) Relief
No trips planned at this time

The devastation of Hurricane Katrina is still
a lasting reminder of what hit the gulf coast
over six years ago. Rebuilding has been a
slow process, but Faith Community continues
to work with area agencies to help families
return to their homes or to a new one.
Team members may assist with building,
painting and clean-up.
