Personal Prayers for Strength and Guidance

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on
your own understanding.  Proverbs 3:5

Father God, let me never take you for granted! I know you are the
God of all the universe, Lord. I must make more of an effort to
recognize that You are working in my life and guiding me. I want to
trade all my earthly dependencies for Your presence.

Please help me to sense Your hand on me as I go about my daily
tasks. Help me to sense your presence so strongly in my life that I
never doubt it again. When your presence poursthrough me, my
longings are filled more deeply and more completely than anything
this life has the offer. The sense of peace, the direction, the calm,
the strength wells within me that can only come from you. I
experience your power, and also the eternal goodness that
encompasses you. Glory radiates from you and yet I know that I can
approach you. I can come to you with anything, and you will talk to
me, become personal with me in my fragile human condition.

Thank you, Lord for loving me first…for pursuing me and wanting a
relationship with me. You are my Savior and I love you. AMEN

“He will teach the ways that are right and best to those who
humbly turn to him.”  Psalms 25:9

Heavenly Father, I know that you sent your Son here on earth and that
He died for me. It is hard for me to comprehend why such a powerful
God could love me as much as you do. Even though I cannot understand
a love so great, I know Christ laid down His life for me so that I might
have abundant life forever with you.

I ask you to forgive me for not living Your way. Father, I need you to
help me become all you created me to be. Show me where I am not
walking on your path. Come into my heart and fill me with your Holy Spirit.
Let all the wrong, the sin, the unhealthy and unholy thinking be crowded
out by the power of your presence.

Almighty Father, I ask for your help in living my life according to your will…
being all I can be in your name. I want this journey in you to continue. I
long for my relationship with you to grow. I want to know you intimately…I
want to learn more about you…I want to meet you in all the comings and
goings of my life. Come, Lord, take over my heart and live there forever. AMEN

who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

Prayers of Comfort and Loss of a Loved One

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death upon
them a light has shined.” Isaiah 9:2

Loving Father, I come to You now with sadness. I come with such
grief…a profound sense of loss and emptiness with losing a loved
one. I can’t imagine what life will look like without him/her. I can’t
imagine waking up tomorrow and not seeing his/her face. I am
afraid, Lord.

Father, I understand that You know my pain and my sorrow. I know
that You are waiting to take my hand…and comfort me…and grant
me peace. I know that You are wrapping your arms around me now.
I ask for the kind of strength that only You can provide…for you are
the one who will help me put one foot in front of the other and move
through the days ahead.

I ask that you help me through my grief. Your healing is mighty and
I know you will carry me when I am unable to stand. You are the
constant in my life when all else changes. Thank you, Father, for
being my anchor and my rock. I will hold onto that truth during these
next days. AMEN

“The Lord will be your everlasting light, and the days of your
mourning shall be ended.” Isaiah 60:20

Dear Jesus,
I am hurting so it is hard for me to feel comforted.
The only thing that brings me any comfort, Lord, is You and Your
love for me. I cannot even begin to imagine where I would be
without Your love.

I am struggling now and feel such deep grief. I feel like I have
fallen into the bottom of a pit and I see no way out of it. And
yet I know this pain and sorrow will not last forever. There will be
a time when I will see positive things returning to my life. The loss
will still be there, but I will begin to look ahead.

Thank you, Jesus, for your mighty hand in my life. Thank you for
taking my hand and leading me out of the pit. Thank you for never
leaving me alone in my darkness….but being the light that I can
follow now and always. AMEN

Prayers of Thanksgiving and Praise

“But you are….His own special people, that you may proclaim the
praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous
light.”  1 Peter 2:9
My Lord and My God, you are so far beyond my human understanding.
I continue to be amazed by you.  You offer strength, hope, and healing in
ways I don’t even know I need.  What a privilege it is for me to receive the
love you have given to me!  Lord, I ask for your presence to move through
me.  I know you are the God of the universe.  You are also the God who
loves me so very much.  I recognize that you are always present in my life,
whether I take the time to notice or not.  Please help me sense your hand
on me as I go about my daily tasks.  I love you, Lord, and I thank you for
your love and care for me.  In Your son’s name, AMEN
Lord God, I thank you for your hand guiding me always.  I thank you for the
blessings you pour on me and my loved ones.  I thank you for the reminder
of your love that you send my way.  I even thank you for those wake up calls
that you provide…those experiences or people you put in my path that
cause me to stop and think about the choices I am going to make and the
words that I am about to speak  I can only hope that I understand what you
would have me learn from those people and experiences.

I am thankful Father that even when I feel alone or am worried, you
send reminders that you are with me…and all I must do is trust you
and the concern is lifted, the loneliness and confusion gone.  There
is a joy and peace that I feel even when things get hard…the
awareness that you are working with me…that I really am never
alone.  You often send my brothers and sisters in Christ to me to
offer comfort and prayer at just the moment I need them most.
I thank you for that.  I pray, Father, that you will also use me to
care for and minister to others as well.

I pray that I will, with your help, move ahead, confidently on the
path you have designed for me.  I ask you to clearly let me know
when I stray.  I invite your counsel and ask for you to give me
wisdom and opportunity that I may reach out to others to share
the message of eternal life with them.  We all must understand
that happiness is temporary…that happiness is based on external
circumstances.  But the joy of knowing you is lasting because it is
your presence within us.  You are the one who offers true joy and
contentment that cannot be found elsewhere.  You offer the peace
and security that I found nowhere on earth.  Thank you for loving
me enough to send me the gift of your Son so I can be with your
eternally.   AMEN
“O Lord, God Almighty, who is like You?  You are mighty, O
Lord, and your faithfulness surrounds you.”  Ps.  89:8

Dear Lord, thank you for the unending gift of your love.  Thank
you for believing in me.  I know that you are working in me…you
fill my soul and give me strength when I need it most.  Thank
you, Father, for sending your son for me…for He breaths life into
me.  His unlimited love changes minds, hearts, and souls and I
know joy, happiness…peace and strength that can only come from
You.  Jesus said in John 10:10, “I came that they might have life,
and that they might have it abundantly.”  He was speaking to me…
He came for me…He died for me….before I was born.  He keeps
the promise to be with me always.
I am so blessed because you
are a forgiving God and an understanding God.  You have done
so much for me and yet you keep on blessing me. I thank you,
Father, for being patient as I continue to learn and grow in you
and live Your purpose in my life.  AMEN

Holy Father, I come before you thanking you for who you are.
It is my joy to spend time with you and be still…to listen to you
and worship you. I come before you because I love you and want
to talk to you.  There is no one greater than you, Lord….no one.
You give life and joy and love and forgiveness when I come asking
that of you.  You are merciful, Father.  So Father….I ask for your
ear as I speak with you.  I ask for you hand that I may take
comfort, and I ask for your heart that I may understand and feel
Your presence in me.     AMEN

“I praise You, God, because You are a personal God, who
gives me the honor of knowing You personally, even inviting
me to feast at Your kingdom’s table with Abraham, Isaac,
and Jacob.”    Matt. 8:11

Prayers of Confession

“There was a time when I wouldn’t admit what a sinner
I was. But my dishonesty made me miserable and filled
my days with frustration. All day and all night your hand
was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water on
a sunny day until I finally admitted all my sins to you and
stopped trying to hide them. I said to myself, ‘I will
confess them to the Lord.’ And you forgave me! All my
guilt is gone.” Psalms 32:3-5

Gracious Father, I am in awe of your love and your gift of
forgiveness. I know that I allow my pride to blind me from
you. Lord, how easy it is for me to make things about myself
and what is comfortable for me. I shift my focus from you
and your will, to me and what is easiest or most convenient
for me. That is so wrong, Father and I ask your forgiveness
now.

Dear Lord, I confess that I have spoken hurtful and unkind
words. I confess that I have struggled with envy and jealousy.
I confess that I have failed to reach out to family and friends
around me who are in need. Father, you see me with all my
flaws, all of my brokenness, all my sin, and you love me in
spite of that.

I humbly ask, Lord, that you forgive me of my sins. I ask you
to heal my brokenness. I ask that you open my eyes to your
love. I thank you for giving me new life through your son,
Jesus Christ who died for me. I thank you and I love you. In
Christ’s name I pray. AMEN

“Admit your faults to one another and pray for
each other so that you may be healed. The
earnest prayer of a righteous man has great
power and wonderful results.” James 5:16

Precious Father, thank you so much for this day
and all the opportunities I have had today. Yes,
there have been challenges. The day did not go
without hitches and there were potholes I became
stuck in. But there was a sense of steadiness when
I encountered an obstacle, not panic. A calm and a
confidence that I could call on you to help me find
the best way to manage. I praise you and thank you
for helping me maintain my focus…. that focus and
that center would be you, your work, your will, and
your way.

You know I stumble and fall flat on my face. I
become full of myself. I pat myself on my back and
congratulate myself on how clever or talented I am.
I develop the outlook that I have earned what I have
through hard work, lots of effort and sacrifice. Forgive
me, Lord, for those times when I applaud myself
instead of honoring and glorifying you. Without
hesitation I call on you when I’m struggling. And yet
I set you aside and sometimes forget about you when
I am feeling on top of the world. I need to remember
that there is a difference between earthly success and
eternal success. I confess that I never ask myself the
questions, “What am I willing to do to live a life that
furthers your kingdom?” Or “What earthly things should
I set aside that are keeping me from spending time
with you?” I really don’t know if I would say “no” to
temptations and stand firm on your path. I just might
get sucked into the whirlwind of what man defines as
important and stray…I do need you, Father.

Dear Lord, I want to remain focused on you and use the
many blessings you provide to me for your kingdom.
Help me identify when I make earthly things more
important than you. Point out to me those things or
people in my life that I give greater value to than you.
Help clear me of earthly wants and infuse into me the
courage and strength and boldness to proclaim you as
the priority in my life that I might live according your word.
I will need your help in this, for I cannot do this alone.
Continue to lead me and use my life to glorify you. AMEN

“But if we confess our sins to him, he can be depended
on to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong.”
1 John 1:9

Prayers of comfort

“Then they cried to the lord in their troubles, and
he rescued them! He led them from the darkness
and shadow of death and snapped their chains”.
Psalms 107:13-14
Father God, thank you for this day and this moment
to be in your presence. You have given me life…and
loved me like I am your only child. You have taken
me through this day and been with me, talked to me
and coached my every step.
Lord, I thank you for calming my anxiety. Thank you
for replacing my fear with faith…for showing me light
when all I acknowledge is darkness. Thank you for
filling my emptiness with your love. Thank you for
replacing my coldness with your warmth. Father, you
see so much more in me than I see in myself. Help
me see myself as you see me.
Precious Father, you are always with me, whether I
recognize you or not….whether I understand or not. I
desire that peace and knowledge and strength that
comes from knowing you as my best friend and Savior.
So Lord, I come to you, thanking you for your loving
presence in me, your gift of forgiveness and grace,
and being with me in this place at this time. In your
son’s name, AMEN
Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their
strength; they shall mount up with wings like
eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they
shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

Dear Jesus, no matter what, you have promised that
I do not have to face things alone. Disappointments,
conflict, broken relationships, loss…it doesn’t matter…
You are always with me. Thank you for that.
You will go with me through everything I face. You
will walk with me. You will guide me. You will
strengthen me. You will give me right words. You will
give me wisdom. You know my needs and you will
care for me. Help me cling to you no matter what else
happens today. AMEN
