The REAL Thing Speakers

J. Warner Wallace - Keynote Speaker

J. Warner Wallace makes the case for a more reasonable, evidential view of the Christian faith using the skills and principles he has developed over his career as a cold-case homicide detective. He will not only examine the evidence for the reliability of the New Testament manuscripts, but will also paint a picture of the incredible impact that Jesus of Nazareth has had on history and what we could know about him even if we didn’t have any of the New Testament documents at all.

Mr. Wallace is a Dateline-featured cold-case homicide detective, popular national speaker and best-selling author. He continues to consult on cold-case investigations while serving as a Senior Fellow at the Colson Center for Christian Worldview. He is also an adjunct professor of apologetics at Talbot School of Theology (Biola University) and Southern Evangelical Seminary, and a faculty member at Summit Ministries. J. Warner became a Christ-follower at the age of thirty-five after investigating the claims of the New Testament gospels using his skill set as a detective. He eventually earned a Master’s Degree in Theological Studies from Gateway Seminary.

Timothy McGrew

Timothy McGrew is analytic philosopher who teaches Christians how to think clearly about their faith. He will present a fascinating look at an often-overlooked characteristic of Scripture – the “undesigned coincidences” that appear between passages – and about how they are the hallmark of true accounts told about real historical events.

Dr. McGrew is Professor of Philosophy at Western Michigan University, where he has taught for the past 25 years. His research interests include formal epistemology, the history and philosophy of science, and the history and philosophy of religion. When he is not doing philosophy, he enjoys playing chess online, coaching at his local chess club, running trails, and making high quality paper airplanes. He lives in SW Michigan with his wife, Lydia McGrew, and their daughters. Learn more at: https://timothymcgrew.com/

Tom Gilson

Tom Gilson will join Dr. McGrew for the "Changing Landscape of Challenges to the Faith" talk on Friday evening.

Mr. Gilson is a senior editor with The Stream and author of six books, including Too Good to be False: How Jesus’ Incomparable Character Reveals His Reality and A Christian Mind: Thoughts on Life and Truth in Jesus ChristHe has more than 1,000 published articles to his credit, in addition to his top-ranked Thinking Christian blogfounded in 2004. Tom lives near Dayton, Ohio with his wife, Sara. They are the proud grandparents of one grandson.

Bob Perry

Bob Perry holds a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the United States Naval Academy, and an M.A. in Christian Apologetics from Biola University. His professional aviation career included eight years as a naval aviator in the U.S. Marine Corps flying the AV-8B Harrier attack jet, and nearly 32 years as a commercial airline pilot with Delta Air Lines. He is a contributing writer for the Christian Research Journal and has had his work published in Salvo, Touchstone, The Lookout, Family Digest, Marriage Partnership, and Air Line Pilot magazines. He has been writing about Christian apologetics at truehorizon.org since 2008. Bob has been married to Mary, his high school sweetheart, since 1985.  Description: It's not too soon or too late to begin to understand your options as you age! Whether you are in your 40’s, 50's or already retired understanding how to plan for retirement, and the issues that come with aging need careful planning and you WILL want to understand your options. Each week we'll welcome a seasoned expert to come speak to us about:

  • The ABC's of Medicare- What are the costs? What does it cover? When should I sign up? Can I defer it?
  • Funeral Planning- What kind of service do I want? What are the costs? Who should I call if my loved one suddenly dies at home? Burial/Cremation?
  • Estate Planning- Do I need a will? What list should I compile to leave my loved ones?
  • Nursing Home and at Home options- What are the costs of nursing care? What happens when I run out of money? What is an at-home alternative?

A little forethought now about how you would like things to go once you're incapacitated or gone can give you great peace of mind now, as well as spare your loved ones additional grief. At the end of our last session, you'll have a checklist you can use to gather important papers and put in the same, safe place now to make it easier for your loved ones later.

Email Beth McHenry if you intend to come or want more info!

Caregivers Support Group

First Monday of the month, 2pm - 3:30pm

Caregivers Support Group

Leader: Ann Copeland |

Are you a caregiver? If you help care for another adult, whether or not that person lives in your home, in a nursing home, or in their own home, you are a caregiver. You are a caregiver whether you devote as much as 24 hours per day or as little as 5 minutes a week to someone you care for.

Caregiving is stressful. Caregivers are more likely than their non-caregiving peers to be a risk for depression, heart disease, high blood pressure and other chronic illnesses. You are particularly at risk for caregiver burnout -- a state of mental and physical exhaustion brought on by the physical, emotional and financial stresses of providing ongoing care, usually over a long period of time. Caregiver burnout is the most cited reason for caregivers placing a loved one in a nursing home.

Caregiving for a loved one can leave you frustrated and angry at times. That’s normal -- but you don’t have to go through it alone. Research shows that having support is one of the best, most effective ways of reducing caregiver stress and frustration. A caregiver support group can be a lifeline, providing a place to share feelings, make new friends, get help navigating the health care system, and learn from and lean on others who are walking a similar path.

Please join us for our monthly Caregivers Support Group that meets on the 1st Monday of every month, from 2-3:30 pm in the Parlor.

For questions, please contact Ann Copeland at 513-275-1725, or

Understanding Your Options

Room: Parlor
Dates: September 18
Time: 5:30-7:00 pm

Family Promise

Sunday, October 23, 2022 - Sunday, October 30, 2022

Family Promise

Leader: Kim Hollon |

Faith Community UMC: 8230 Cox Road, West Chester, OH US 45069

Faith Community will again play an integral part in helping families who are transitionally homeless. During the week of October 23 - 30, we will open our doors and hearts to provide dinner, fellowship, and a loving place for families to stay while they get back on their feet. The Family Promise program provides the needed tools and skills to help the families improve their situations.

How Can I Help?

Servant volunteers are vital to the Family Promise ministry, and new volunteers are needed to keep this ministry here at Faith. Hands are needed to help with the set-up and tear-down, to launder sheets/towels, and to prepare meals. We need food donations for breakfast and lunch items for the families. Friendly faces are also needed to spend time with the families in the evenings and sleep at the church as an Overnight Host.  For additional information or questions, please contact

Understanding Your Options

Room: Parlor
Dates: September 18
Time: 5:30-7:00 pm

Larry Osborne introduces us to a man forced to live in a fast-changing and godless society. This man faced fears about the future, concern for his safety, and the discouragement of a world that seemed to be falling apart at warp speed. That man was Daniel, and with the power of hope, humility, and wisdom, he not only survived, but thrived. CLICK HERE to watch a video about the study.

Children's Christmas Musical

Children's Christmas Musical

Leader: Kelly Waugh | | 513-777-9533 ext. 107

Time: 9:30am – Noon

Join us on Sunday, December 4 in the Christian Living Center at 9:30 and 11:00 am for our Children's Christmas Musical, "The Mystery of the Manger." FaithKidz ages K-6th grade will present this progam with actors, choirs and solos as they search for the meaning of Christmas.

"The Mystery of the Manger" centers around Jane Blond, an investigative reporter for The Morning Star newspaper who want the facts…just the facts!  Her questions and searching would make headline news on Christmas morning.  As she observes rehearsal for the Christmas Eve pageant the children teach her through their songs that “Like the Wisemen,” we’re searching for the truth, and that the gospel accounts of Jesus’ life are “The Gospel Truth.”

Christmas Toy Shop

Saturday, December 10

Christmas Toy Shop

Leader: Brandon Fine |

Time: 9am – 11am

Offering Hope and Love

This holiday season as we celebrate the birth of Jesus, we look to be a beacon of hope and love to local families. For many, this festive season of giving and celebrating is also a time of financial stress. To help alleviate this strain, Faith Community will offer a Christmas Toy Shop for local families. Designed to give parents the opportunity to provide Christmas for their family, the Christmas Toy Shop allows parents to select and purchase a $40-valued gift for each of their children at a greatly reduced price of $5.

Gifts with Dignity

By offering the gifts at a reduced price, we are giving parents the dignity to purchase and select the gifts for their children. This event began in response to parents watching their children receive good-intentioned gifts selected by strangers that the parents wished they were able to purchase. Thus, dignity is restored to them as they are able to purchase the gifts for their children.

This Christmas Toy Shop is only made possible through your generous donations. We are hoping to help 350 families with gifts this year!

How can I help?

  • Shop from Home - You can click on our Amazon Wish List, or Target Registry, make your selections, and the toys will be delivered directly to the church.
  • Shop Locally - You can also purchase toys at your favorite local store. For your convenience, we have compiled a list of the most requested toys  (list coming soon) … have fun shopping!
  • Purchase Gift Cards - You can purchase and mail (or drop off) gift cards to the church and we will do the shopping. Please be sure to include “Brandon Fine” on the envelope, and our elves will take care of the rest.

Timing

All toys, gift cards, and gift wrap must be delivered or dropped off at the church by Sunday, November 27. Please stop by M-Th between 9 am - 4 pm and leave your items in the church office.

Note: If you would like to make special arrangements for drop-off, contact Kim Hollon at

How will it work for the families?

We will fill the Christmas Toy Shop with age-appropriate, unwrapped $40-valued gifts, with the target age range of 2 to 14. On the day of the event, Saturday, December 10, registered parents will arrive to shop during their designated time slot. The cost to the parents is $5 per gift with a maximum of $15 per family.

Thank you!

We are looking forward to helping local families provide a special Christmas for their children. Thank you Faith Community for your generosity this holiday season!
