Backpack Distribution and Prayers for Homeless Persons

Time: 9:30am – 1pm

Homelessness in Cincinnati is on the rise. Twelve to 24 months after a downward turn in the economy, those without a home become truly homeless.

Join Pastor Julie to Make Jesus Know[n] and bless others with a word of encouragement, prayer, and a backpack filled with useful, needed items. We will gather at the church at 9:30 am on Saturday, May 8, share in a time of prayer, receive instruction, load cars, and drive to downtown Cincinnati. Once downtown, we will pray with individuals we encounter on the streets. We anticipate being back to the church by 1:00 pm.

If you have filled a backpack from the week-three “Making Jesus Know[n]” Challenge (see list below for ideas), bring them with you and we will give to those with whom we pray. If you didn't fill a backpack, don't let that stop you from joining us!  We will have backpacks to give out. This is a great opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and follow the nudge of God.

Help Make Jesus Know[n] to these individuals by giving them a backpack filled with useful, needed items:

  • Hat
  • Duck tape
  • Face or cleansing wipes
  • Lotion
  • Chapstick
  • Beef jerky
  • Water bottle
  • Foot powder
  • Granola bars
  • Dried fruit
  • Tea
  • Trail mix
  • Note of encouragement
  • Journal and pen
  • First aid kit
  • Chewing gum
  • Comb
  • Hand sanitizer

Please keep in mind:

Items should be packed in a medium-sized, nondescript backpack and given, for free, to those in need. You can keep the backpack(s) in your car and offer to anyone who needs it. Simply explain that the pack is a totally free gift and contains good, useable items.

Personal safety and self-respect are two things that dominate the lives of the disadvantaged. Homeless people must remain inconspicuous in order to survive in society. So the backpacks and contents must be of subdued colors and look as much like street fare as possible while still being practical and of good quality.
